Cafés Solidaires is a university association registered with the University of Geneva, run by a highly motivated team of volunteers. Several people are involved in the association's committee, while many others help organise the association's various activities from time to time. Here you can find out more about the people who make these multicultural meetings possible.
Julie Franck
President
Julie holds a doctorate in psychology and is a Senior Lecturer and Researcher at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences at the University of Geneva. Since 2017, she has been involved in research, teaching and civic engagement initiatives focusing on migration issues at the University. In 2017, she launched the Cafés Solidaires with Anne-Cécile Dominé-Aubert. In 2018, she inaugurated the UNI-R programme, which enables around 100 students and migrants to exchange ideas in pairs at the Global Studies Institute each autumn semester. She created the interfaculty course ‘An Interdisciplinary perspective on Forced Migration’, which is open to all students. Julie is also the co-founder of the Yaffa association, which carries out psychosocial, cultural and artistic projects in Palestine and Switzerland, and the founder of the Alama association, which raises public awareness of social justice issues.
Lara Sarem-Kalali
Vice-president
Lara is a master's student in international and development studies at the Graduate Institute. Committed to the integration of migrants in Geneva, she volunteers within the Geneva Red Cross and the Geneva-based association Alama. She coordinates various projects run by the Cafés Solidaires association.
Jonas Oegerli
Treasurer
Jonas is a Bachelor's student in International Relations at the University of Geneva. He developed a strong interest in the field of migration in Switzerland after completing his civil service in 2021 at a federal centre for asylum seekers. He is part of the ACTIN project, an international integration programme run in partnership with the University of Konstanz.
Atalanta
Secretary
Atalanta is a Bachelor's student in International Relations at the University of Geneva. Since 2023, she has been active in the field of migration as coordinator of the CUAE French Workshops and a volunteer at the Solidarity Cafés. Her involvement in the Uni-R program and the Evening Cafés deepened her commitment to integration, which she now continues in her role as secretary of the Cafés Solidaires
Parents' Table Coordinator
Yousra is a second-year Master's student in psychology. She is working with Julie Franck on the ACTIN collaborative project, an international integration programme run in partnership with the University of Konstanz. As part of this project, she is involved in coordinating the parents' table, which is part of the Cafés Solidaires initiative.
Coordination des Cafés du soir
Alem has been participating in Cafés Solidaires since late 2023. At first, it was just to enjoy some friendly company. Today, he volunteers and helps organise the evening cafés. The Cafés have allowed him to practise French, meet kind people, laugh, learn and, above all, feel at home in Geneva. He studied to become an English teacher in Turkey. In August 2025, he will begin an apprenticeship (CFC) as an electrician in Geneva.
Communications
Alexandre is a second-year Bachelor's student in International Relations. He has been participating in the Solidarity Cafés since September 2025 and is fascinated by different languages and cultures. Beyond the meaningful encounters, the Cafés have allowed him to broaden his perspective on forced migration and to see "International Relations" through a more pragmatic lens. Since early 2026, he has been in charge of managing the website.
Anne-Cécile Dominé-Aubert
Anne-Cécile has been working at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences at the University of Geneva for 14 years. After several years in the secretariat of the chair of the psychology department, she has been the assistant to the dean of the faculty since 2020. She has lived in five countries, moved 14 times, and loves sports and people. In 2017, she and Julie Franck created Cafés Solidaires and she remains very involved in the association's activities.
Vanessa Prosperi
Vanessa is a student from Ticino studying for a Master's degree in law at the University of Geneva. Migration is a global issue that has interested her since her Bachelor's degree in international relations and has led her to become an integral part of Cafés solidaires as secretary. Her academic internship with Elisa-asile in the summer of 2025 will enable her to provide legal support to asylum seekers in Switzerland.
Samira has been actively involved in Cafés Solidaires since 2017. Originally from Afghanistan, she enjoys supporting people, especially students who are committed to helping migrants. For her, the Cafés are a place for sharing, support and wonderful encounters. Since 2025, she has been helping to organise Evening Cafés.
Agathe is a doctoral student in neuroscience at the University of Geneva, with a degree in multilingualism. She is interested in language learning among adult migrants. She contributes mainly to coordination and administration at Cafés Solidaires.
Shukrullah is one of the active participants in the Solidarity Cafés. Originally from Afghanistan, he has been living in Geneva since 2023 and is studying for his electrician's certificate. He has invited many friends to join the Cafés, made even more friends and improved his French. Since 2025, he has been helping to organise the Evening Cafés.
Virgile is a Master's student in speech and language therapy at the University of Geneva. He has been involved with Cafés Solidaires since 2022 and took on the role of general coordinator in 2023–2024. He has helped to organise meetings and communications. After participating in the UNI-R programme, which creates tandems between students and migrants every autumn, he went on to help coordinate it.
Laïq is one of the active participants in the Cafés Solidaires. Originally from Afghanistan, he has been living in Geneva since 2022 and is studying for his electrician's certificate. He learned about the Solidarity Cafés through UNI-R in 2024 and gave a presentation at an Amnesty UNIGE round table. Since 2025, he has been helping to organise the Evening Cafés.
Niklas is a Bachelor's student in International Relations at the University of Geneva. He has been involved in the Solidarity Cafés as part of his Project Management course. He contributed to the establishment of the Evening Cafés and the creation of the website in 2025.
Ali has been living in Geneva since 2022 and is an active participant in the Cafés Solidaires. He is very sociable and enjoys talking to people and learning about other cultures. Thanks to the Cafés Solidaires, he has quickly improved his French and made friends. In 2026, he will begin his professional certificate as a plumber. Since 2025, he has been helping to organise the Evening Cafés.
Monique holds a Master's degree in Psychology and has been living in Geneva since 2024. She is very interested in human relationships and social communication. Ever since she arrived, she has felt the need to meet people and practise her French in order to better integrate into her new city. Language brings people together, and that's what we do here around a cup of coffee and a few words. Since 2025, she has been helping to organise the Evening Cafés.
Louise is a Bachelor's student in psychology at the University of Geneva. She is interested in the field of migrant support as part of her studies and is motivated to promote a vision of Geneva as a supportive and inclusive city. She has been actively involved in Cafés Solidaires since 2023 and has been part of the volunteer team since 2024.
Nuné Nikoghosyan
Nuné holds a doctorate in sociology and is interested in cultural and scientific diplomacy. She has been working in the International Relations and Partnerships Department at the University of Geneva since 2018. Originally from Armenia and having lived in several countries, multiculturalism is close to her heart. She is also a member of the Geneva-based association Alama.
Yannick holds a Master's degree in Migration Studies (UPF, Barcelona) and is currently studying for a Master's degree in International Solidarity Action (UC3M, Madrid). He contributed to the institutionalisation of Cafés Solidaires by participating in their legal structuring and representing the association before Geneva institutions as treasurer, while studying for a bachelor's degree in International Relations at UNIGE.
Sasha is involved in Cafés Solidaires during his Bachelor's degree in International Relations at the University of Geneva, as part of the Project Management course. Since 2025, he has been contributing to the translation and adaptation of the website.
Luna is involved in Cafés Solidaires during her Bachelor's degree in International Relations at the University of Geneva, as part of the Project Management course. Since 2025, she has been involved in setting up the Partner Cafés in 2025.
Louise is involved in Cafés Solidaires during her Bachelor's degree in International Relations at the University of Geneva, as part of the Project Management course. Since 2025, she has been contributing to the creation of videos and the promotion of Cafés Solidaires.
Louis is a Bachelor's student in International Relations at the University of Geneva. He has been involved with the Cafés solidaires as part of th Project Management course. He contributed to the creation of the website and to the launch of the evening cafés in 2025.
Keren was involved in Cafés Solidaires during her Bachelor's degree in International Relations at the University of Geneva, as part of the Project Management course. She mainly contributed to the evaluation of the impact of the Cafés Solidaires in 2024.
Marianne was involved in Cafés Solidaires during her Bachelor's degree in International Relations at the University of Geneva, as part of her Project Management course. She was particularly involved in the redesign of communication materials in 2024.
Carla was involved in the Cafés Solidaires during her Bachelor's degree in International Relations at the University of Geneva, as part of the Project Management course. She was particularly involved in setting up the partner cafés in 2024.
